Metaxa 12 Star

Not quite a brandy and not quite anything else, Greece's amber original in its most deeply oaked form.

Metaxa has been made since 1888 to a formula that marries aged wine distillates with sweet Muscat wine from Samos and a maceration of Mediterranean botanicals. The 12 Stars leans on medium and heavily toasted casks, which lend orange peel, dried fruit and warm spice over vanilla, toffee and a whisper of smoke, finishing long and aromatic. Serve it neat, or over ice with a wide twist of orange, or use it where you would reach for brandy in a sour.
