Del Maguey Vida Puebla Mezcal
Del Maguey did as much as anyone to put single-village mezcal on the map, and Vida Puebla is their most approachable expression, a fine starting point and a versatile bottle for cocktails. Made from 100% Espadín at a palenque in Axocopan, in the volcanic highlands of Puebla, the piñas are roasted underground, naturally fermented and twice-distilled in small copper pot stills. More earthy and piney than overtly smoky, showing a distinct minerality Del Maguey put down to the volcanic soil, with pine, ripe peach and grapefruit over a smoky, peppery finish.
